Ep. 4: The Trials Begin

Tom and Venie Jones swore they were innocent when Hattiesburg, Mississippi, authorities accused them of murdering local reporter Hansel Batten in 1932. Nonetheless, a Forrest County grand jury indicted them both. Tom went on trial first. In front of a packed crowd inside the Forrest County Courthouse, Tom took the stand in his own defense. He testified that he had never seen Hansel in his life. No one believed him. That would soon change.
